Many people buy great perfumes but don’t get the most from them — not because the perfume is bad, but because it’s applied incorrectly. Here are five common mistakes and how to fix them.

Mistake 1 — Rubbing wrists after spraying

Rubbing breaks down the fragrance’s volatile molecules and shortens life. Fix: spray and let dry naturally on skin.

Mistake 2 — Over-spraying

More isn’t always better. Excessive spray overwhelms others and wastes product. Fix: 2–3 sprays — pulse points (neck, inner wrists, chest).

Mistake 3 — Spraying only on clothes

Clothes hold scent but change how it smells and may stain. Fix: spray skin; to extend life, lightly mist clothes from a distance, or layer with scented body lotion.

Mistake 4 — Spraying on dry skin

Dry skin evaporates fragrance faster. Fix: apply unscented moisturizer first, then perfume — oils trap scent molecules and increase longevity.

Mistake 5 — Not testing for skin chemistry

Perfume reacts to your skin. Fix: test on skin, wear for a day, and note how the heart and base evolve before buying.

Quick pro tips

  • Store perfumes in a dark cool place (heat/light degrade oils).
  • Consider concentration (EDP, EDT, parfum) for longevity — higher concentration = longer wear.

FAQ

Q1: Does perfume last longer on clothes than skin?
—Clothes may hold scent longer but can smell different; skin reveals the true composition.

Q2: Can layering help longevity?0
 — Yes; use unscented lotion then spray.
